H&F Project Case Study

Overview

MindSight Mentors worked with HF Adult Family Home to develop a user-friendly website that highlights their offerings and caring philosophy. HF, led by Alhagie Sidibeh, set out to create a digital presence for their new facility. The effort sought to effectively explain their offerings to prospective residents and families, which I was partly reponsible for in creating designs to improve their experience.

Goal

Collaborate with HF Adult Family Home to create a comprehensive and user-friendly website that showcases their services and care philosophy. By effectively communicating their offerings and values, the website aims to attract potential residents and their families, facilitating informed decision-making and fostering trust in the facility.

My Role

As a UX designer on the team tasked with creating the HF Adult Family Home website from scratch, I was integral in conducting user research, defining project objectives, designing user interfaces, and ensuring alignment with the home's values and target audience needs. Throughout the project, I reported to the lead UX designer and product owner, contributing insights and recommendations to craft an optimal user experience.

Objectives

  • Develop a website with an intuitive and user-friendly interface, ensuring easy navigation for elderly users and their families.
  • Provide comprehensive and easily accessible information about the home's services, amenities, staff qualifications, and care philosophy..
  • Implement feedback mechanisms such as contact forms and surveys to gather insights from visitors and continuously improve the website's usability and effectiveness.
  • Make it easy for visitors to contact the HF Adult Family Home for inquiries, scheduling tours, and admissions by providing clear contact information and inquiry forms.
  • Ensure the website is accessible to users with disabilities by adhering to web accessibility standards and providing features such as resizable text, keyboard navigation, and alt text for images..

Design Process

The website development journey commenced with comprehensive user research to grasp the needs, preferences, and challenges of potential residents and their families. Using these insights, we crafted wireframes and prototypes to construct a user-friendly interface, focusing on intuitive navigation and accessible information.

Through iterative refinement driven by stakeholder feedback and user testing, the design evolved. Collaboration with developers ensured the incorporation of features like inquiry forms, photo galleries, and virtual tours, ensuring seamless integration and technical feasibility

Initial Designs

In the early stages of designing the HF Adult Family Home website, simplicity was key. These initial designs were crafted before the client had a clear vision or logo, leaving room for improvement. Despite their simplicity, they laid the groundwork for future refinement.

High Fidelity Prototypes

After crafting a logo and settling on a color palette, we progressed to high-fidelity prototypes for the HF Adult Family Home website, incorporating feedback from both the team and the client. These prototypes reflect a clearer direction, enhancing user experience while maintaining the essence of the home.

User Testing

Usability Study

During development, our team conducted numerous usability studies to refine the HF Adult Family Home website. These studies, along with stakeholder input, guided iterative improvements until the website was ready for launch. This collaborative effort ensured a user-friendly platform that meets both client and user needs.

Implementations

Upon completion of the redesign and testing phases, the new website was launched for the Adult Family Home. Staff members were trained on website navigation and content management to ensure ongoing maintenance and updates. Promotional materials and signage were strategically placed to drive traffic to the website and encourage engagement.

Conclusion

As a newcomer to large-scale projects, navigating the design process for the HF Adult Family Home website presented initial challenges. In the beginning, I found myself grappling with various aspects, leading to some deficiencies in the early stages. However, with dedicated time and the guidance of the lead designer, I gradually honed my skills and filled the gaps in my knowledge. Over time, this learning curve enabled me to contribute more effectively to the project, resulting in significant improvements as it progressed.

Takeaways

With this being my first large scale projects, here are some of the things I plan to improve on going forward

  • Embrace a proactive attitude towards seeking feedback and iterating designs iteratively to ensure high-quality outcomes and continual improvement.
  • Establish a thorough understanding of client needs early in the process to streamline design efforts and meet expectations effectively.
  • Maintain close collaboration with experienced team members, like the lead designer, to gain valuable insights and guidance.
